| Name: Alfons Heiderich Born: 1906 Biologically: 17 Chronologically: 19 Residence: Building 1, Apartment 601 Background: Alfons was a rocket engineer that bared a resemblance to Alphonse Elric and befriended Edward two years before the movie's start, in Romania. When Edward told him about his travels around his original world, Alfons felt a bit doubtful because although he found his stories interesting, he couldn't believe in the fact that Ed came from another world where alchemy was real, and his brother had his face. Alfons studied under the father of modern rocketry, and wanted to prove the scientific worth of his fellow Germans by inventing a rocket that could actually be ridden. He also had his own reasons to do it as fast as possible. Throughout the course of the movie he suffered from chronic chemical pneumonitis, brought about by constantly having to breathe in rocket fuel fumes. In the end, he died not from the illness, but from a bullet to the back when he was helping Edward return to his world. Despite his life being cut tragically short before he could achieve his dreams, he died with a smile on his face. |
